Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
